Our presenter at the general meeting February 11 was our fairly new member Kurt Shoener. He shared with us his creative journey which has led him to working in many mediums but oils are his main interest at the present. His use of color in his subjects some that are from photos or observations of the world around him was beautiful. It was an extremely interesting evening and we thank Kurt for sharing his talent with us. Here are 2 of his paintings for you to enjoy.
Many artists spend lots of money on art supplies. Then there are those that use found objects to get their creative juices flowing. That is exactly what the presenter at our MOFAS January 13 meeting uses. Kevin Tackett started as a painter (2 of his cardinals are on display in downtown Marion), but when looking online for inspiration he came across something that changed his whole direction. He found artists using found objects which fascinated him, pulled him and then he was hooked.
He starts with sketches, then uses his hand made armatures to hold his work while he figures out how to pose them. Then the fun begins. He uses twigs, twine, string, paper, burlap, wire and whatever else he finds to develop his idea. The addition of air dry clay and hot glue assist holding the objects together and paint adds the finishing touch.
The piece in the photo was his winning entry at the MOFAS sponsored art show at the 2021 Popcorn Festival.
Thank you, Kevin, for your wonderful presentation.
